Why do the Samsung Galaxy S4, Samsung Galaxy S3 and the Samsung Galaxy Note II not work with my existing MHL accessories?

MHL is a connector-agnostic standard designed for flexibility while maintaining interoperability. Given this, Samsung made the decision to move from 5 pins to 11 pins for the products listed above. To ensure interoperability with MHL, Samsung has released a variety of accessories, which include:

  • Samsung adapter tip
  • Samsung 11 pin adapter

I’ve noticed that MHL is not included in the phone I just purchased. Why is that?

Manufacturers are continually adjusting model specifications to provide the features most valued by consumers while meeting expectations for lower prices. If MHL is not included in devices that are important to you we encourage you to directly contact the device manufacturers so that they better understand your need is not being met. From our perspective we’re excited that MHL has been included in more than 750 million products, including many recently announced devices such as the Sony Xperia Z5 Premium and Samsung Galaxy Tab S2.

Moving forward we’re working to determine methods for lowering the costs of adopting MHL which we believe will drive expanded adoption of the MHL standard.
